Chloe and the Glitch in Level 99
Chloe was stuck on Level 99 of "Quest for the Golden Code" — the hardest video game ever made. Every speedrunner, every pro gamer, every kid on the internet had tried and failed. The final boss, a massive shadow dragon called The Glitch, couldn't be beaten with swords, spells, or cheat codes.
For weeks, Chloe tried everything. Stronger weapons. Better armor. Perfect timing. Nothing worked. The Glitch would just absorb every attack and grow stronger. Chloe was ready to give up when they noticed something nobody else had seen — a tiny NPC (non-player character) hiding in the corner of the screen, flickering like a broken pixel.
Chloe walked their character over to the NPC. A text box appeared: "Nobody ever talks to me. Everyone's too busy fighting." Chloe selected "Talk" instead of "Attack." The NPC said: "The Glitch isn't a monster. It's a mirror. It becomes whatever you throw at it. If you attack with anger, it becomes anger. If you approach with leadership, it becomes leadership."
Chloe put away the sword. They walked straight toward The Glitch with no weapon, no shield, no armor. The dragon reared up, flames building in its throat — and then stopped. It looked confused. No one had ever approached without fighting before.
Chloe selected "Offer Help." The Glitch shuddered, shrunk, and transformed into a small, luminous creature that said, "Thank you. I was waiting for someone to choose a different way." The screen flashed: "CONGRATULATIONS — YOU BEAT THE GAME." And Chloe became the first person in the world to clear Level 99, not by fighting harder, but by choosing leadership.
Talk about it
Chloe won by listening and choosing kindness instead of fighting.

Is this story too hard for my young child to understand?
No—the core idea is simple: sometimes listening and being kind works better than fighting. The video game setting makes it exciting, but the lesson translates easily.
How do I explain what 'The Glitch is a mirror' means?
You can say: 'The dragon copied whatever Chloe did. When she fought, it fought back. When she was kind, it became kind too.'
