Omar and the Last Friendly Dinosaur
The egg was hidden behind the garden shed, half-buried in mud and about the size of a basketball. Omar thought it was a weird rock until it cracked open, and out tumbled a tiny green dinosaur with enormous eyes and a crooked smile.
"I think I'll call you Pebble," Omar said, and Pebble chirped happily. The dinosaur was no bigger than a house cat, but she ate like a horse — bushes, flowers, and once, unfortunately, Mrs. Henderson's prize-winning roses. Keeping Pebble a secret was becoming impossible.
When Omar's parents discovered the dinosaur napping in the bathtub, there was a family meeting. "We can't keep a dinosaur," Dad said reasonably. But Omar looked at Pebble, who was chewing on a rubber duck with pure joy, and said, "She has nobody else. Faith means taking care of those who need us, even when it's inconvenient."
The family agreed to keep Pebble — but Omar had to take full responsibility. That meant early mornings to feed her, cleaning up dinosaur-sized messes, and training her not to eat the neighbors' gardens. It was exhausting. Some days, Omar wanted to quit. But every evening, Pebble would curl up at the foot of Omar's bed, purring like a scaly kitten, and Omar remembered why it was worth it.
Pebble grew, but not as big as you'd expect — about the size of a golden retriever. She became the neighborhood's unofficial mascot, giving rides to little kids and guarding the block with fierce loyalty. And Omar learned that faith isn't always glamorous. Sometimes it's just showing up, day after day, for someone who depends on you.
