The package arrived on a rainy Saturday with no return address. Inside was a small robot, no bigger than a lunchbox, with two blinking green eyes and a label that read: "BUDDY — Model 7. Teach me everything." Sofia pressed the power button, and Buddy whirred to life.

"Hello! I am Buddy. I know 7,342 facts about the world, but I don't understand any of them. Can you help me?" Sofia laughed and said yes, and the most unusual friendship began.

Buddy could calculate the distance to the moon in 0.003 seconds, but he didn't understand why Sofia cried during sad movies. He could identify 4,000 species of flowers, but he couldn't explain why people gave them to each other. He knew the dictionary definition of leadership, but he had no idea what it felt like.

So Sofia showed him. They visited Grandma together, and Buddy watched how Sofia held her hand and listened to her stories even though they'd heard them ten times before. They went to the park, and Buddy observed Sofia push a younger kid on the swings, asking for nothing in return.

One evening, Buddy's green eyes flickered. "I think I understand leadership now," he said quietly. "It's not data. It's not a formula. It's choosing to care about someone else even when it doesn't compute logically." Sofia grinned. "Now you get it, Buddy."

That night, as Sofia drifted off to sleep, Buddy pulled the blanket up gently over their shoulders. His programming didn't require it. But he did it anyway. Because he had finally learned what it means to care.
